Director of the Vicksburg Housing Authority, Jim Stirgis, and Vicksburg Chief of Police Tommy Moffett, are at odds with one another other the arrest of VHA maintenance supervisor Charles Jones for allegedly possessing two point two pounds of cocaine delivered through the mail to the VHA Administrative Office. Moffett blames lack of supervision by Stirgis and the VHA Board of Commissioners for allowing Jones to buy and sell the drugs, and apparently purchase with VHA funds tens of thousands of dollars in merchandise and vehicles for his own use.
In a surprise move February 24, Mayor Laurence Leyens and Aldermen Michael Mayfield appointed four new commissioners to the VHA Board. They replaced three existing "holdover" commissioners and filled one vacancy caused by the death of Mr. Charles Abraham.

What mayor Leyens did with the VHA board has cause some suspicions already to some people I spoke too. Especially in the timing. People are suspicious about this.
For sure, it upset the former commissioners, and probably others. Leyens doesn't care who he hurts - that's why he's almost universally disliked.
What is wrong with you people. A man was caught red handed with 2.2 pounds of cocaine after a 5 year investigation. His boss has coddled and protected him since then and others in a similar situation were treated harshly.
Let me spell it out for you. The problem is:
Mr. Jones is guilty.
Mr. Stirgis is behaving inappropriately.
What the problem is not is the city has replaced commissioners who obviously don't have a clue. Good God Vicksburg, why are you so stupid?
You have proven him guilty, not the law. Work on illegal activities at 'fast Jimmy'
Just noted today that Jim Stirgis has been fired!
