Vicksburg Tea Party - April 15

Vicksburg will have its own "Tea Party" on April 15 to protest the way the government is spending our tax dollars. The event will take place on the courthouse steps 5 PM. Greenwood, Jackson, Tupelo, etc., are also planning their own:

We need an organizer and a way to get the word out. Any suggestions?

I'm all for it.

David, you have the radio program and the soap box, and you're a leader. Organize it! Time's a wasting!

David Day said...

Yeah, will get J in on it tomorrow, we might have some fun. Call in if it doesn't come up in the first hour or so.

Where are the callers!?

MALCOLM ALLRED said...

I overslept! I'm sorry, David. Were there any callers at all?

David Day said...

It ended up with several callers including some high profile local individuals. We will continue to push it on the show the next three shows, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

I will provide a large cooking pot and tea bags. We will encourage locals to show up and drop a bag in the pot to symbolize their involvement.

Wow, isn't this exciting, an actual show of community involvement with local government. We want this to be respectful of our elected officials. We also want to send a very clear message to them that we have had enough.

Perhaps people could also post a comment on Vicksburg Speaks to show their support for this cause.

I heard on the Klondyke this morning that Vicksburg was on the map on Fox News.

I would like to sign the petition to merge our coumty and city government. Who do I need to call to do this??

Call David Day at the Klondyke - 601-638-4321 or 601-661-7352.

Turnout for the Tea Party was disappointing, likely due to the fact that few people knew about it. A press release was sent to the Vicksburg Post two days prior to the fifteenth, but the Post apparently decided not to publicize the event.

David Day said...

The turnout was about what I expected when I realized we were going to be snubbed by the Post.

When we do it again we will make sure, in person, the Post has the info and do a media campaign on it. We came late to the party and didn't have a chance to market it like we should have.

I was heartened by the quality of people that showed for the event and got to meet two people who were on my 'must meet before I die' list.

Next time it will be much, much bigger with music, media and magic.

Dave the post didn't even run a story on the local tax protest. What the post did makes them a newstory in my opioin. This was a huge national event too.

David Day said...

Isn't that interesting. No coverage of a huge national event by our local paper.

The National Media is now spinning this story to say it was a right wing thing. Ed Schultz said it was 'un-American' to protest.

Good lord. I hope our Post was just inefficient. It would sadden me if the Post decided to snub the story because it didn't fit with their political views.

We'll have to talk about the Post not covering the story during today's show.

David Day please don't become a blight on Vicksburg's growth. Focus on positive issues that will bring you and this city advancement.

Dead on Anonymous. I am a Vicksburg supporter and love the Vicksburg Post. That doesn't preclude me from asking questions.

I remain disappointed the Post didn't cover the Tea Party but take full responsibility for that. When the next Tea Party is thrown we will put a lot more emphasis and media into it.

Thanks for the message.

On this tax tea party issue the Post needs to be challenged on it. Especially why they didn't advertise it. And the no coverage issue as well. What are Post real politics?

MALCOLM ALLRED said...

To their credit, they did cover the Jackson and other tea parties on an inside page - page A3, 4/16.

The Jackson tea parties should've been on the front page not pg2.

A heads up anyone of u read Charlie Mitchell's column on the tea parties?
